Chipmaker Intel and Michael J Fox’s Parkinson’s foundation are teaming up with a pharmaceuticals company to use smartwatches to collect data in drug trials, in the latest tie-up between healthcare and technology.
The two groups will work with Cynapsus Therapeutics, a Toronto-based biotech group that is developing an experimental treatment for Parkinson’s disease. Patients taking part in trials for Cynapsus will be asked to wear motion-sensing smartwatches that will be used to try to detect when a sufferer experiences a debilitating “off episode”.
